Within cloud and infrastructure environments, the role can cover servers, operating systems, virtualisation, identity services, storage, backup, networking and cloud-connected systems. Systems Engineers may be responsible for both maintaining existing environments and helping deliver upgrades, migrations and infrastructure improvements.

They commonly work alongside infrastructure, cloud, network, security and support teams to keep systems available, secure and performing effectively while resolving technical issues and supporting wider technology projects.
